O Canada

13/2/2016

Our copy of O Canada is ready! Follow the link below and at the top of the page you will find a download button. There are three versions of the song: Country, regular, and pop.
www.FlagofCanada.ca

Rob from Hometown Music (who produced the recording) wrote:

The largest recording of O Canada ever produced, featuring your students
singing with students across Canada, is ready to share with the world.  We encourage your school to download, play and share your students’ historic recording with pride. Congratulations go to all students at your school for singing on this historic recording.  We submitted the recording and your school’s name to Guinness.  Hopefully the world record is approved and your students will have even more to be proud of.
As a non-profit dedicated to building young minds and communities through the power of music we were honoured to bring the Flag of Canada Hometown Proud program to 28,725 students across Canada.
Thank you goes to teachers for helping students prepare for our visit by using the Flag of Canada lesson plans, helping students submit their artwork and of course for helping students learn and practice O Canada.
Thank you as well to the schools who encouraged students to share what they learned about the Flag of Canada and how it’s connected to their hometowns for the documentary footage we gathered.  We were able to fit almost an hour of documentary highlights in the commemorative E-Book, helping students learn about the Flag of Canada for generations to come.
You will find a free copy of O Canada and the commemorative E-Book featuring your school’s name at www.FlagofCanada.ca.  It’s also available on iBook.  Please share it with all your school’s families and encourage them to download their free copies as keepsakes.  The book can also be shared on many social media platforms by clicking the “Share” button.
I would also like to thank you, the custodians and all staff at your school for making this project such a huge success.  We were thrilled to see so many students wearing red & white, hearing so many amazing singing voices and hearing all the things they learned about our flag.
It truly was a great way to celebrate and commemorate the 50th anniversary of our flag.
On behalf of all of us at Hometown Music, please let all your students know we’re very proud of what they achieved.
Best regards,
Rob.

Happy Valentine's Day! I sent all the children home today with smears of sticky pink frosting on their pants and cake crumbs in their shirts, as well as a backpack full of valentines attached to chocolate and suckers. You're welcome! Thanks for the wealth of goodies sent - we shared them out at lunch and the end of the day and they were enjoyed by everyone!
  • Deklin is proud of his backpack, and Everett loves his Ironman hat.
  • Library book exchange day is on Mondays. We try to exchange Take Home Books Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday but it doesn't always happen.
  • K registration continues next week. See Ms. Adams in the office. To be eligible for Kindergarten attendance in September 2016 a child must be 5 years of age by December 31, 2016. At time of registration, please bring your child’s original Birth Certificate and Care Card number. Of course, you are able to register your child after these dates.
  • Pizza orders are due on Monday, Feb. 15. Pizza with be delivered before early dismissal on Thursday and will go home with the children.
  • Thursday, Feb. 18 is an early dismissal day for parent/teacher interviews. Please make arrangements to pick up your child at 12:30.
  • Friday, Feb. 19 is a non-instructional day. Team Awesome will not be attending school.
  • I have finished assessments and touched bases with all but a few parents who I will catch early next week. If you would like you can book an 'official' time to see me the afternoon of Thursday, Feb. 18 but I am also available to meet with you any time you have a question or concern- just send me an email or talk to me during pick up or drop off and we can arrange something.
  • February family projects are due whenever they are done. There will be no family project for March.
  • Since Christmas a large number of toys have been coming to school in backpacks and they are causing some issues. If you could make sure toys stay home, other than on your child's sharing day, I would very much appreciate it.
Go forth and have an Awesome Valentine's Day!

  • Alex is proud of his backpack, Abigail showed us her pink purse and Lysia loves her  sparkly rings.
  • Library book exchange day is on Mondays. We try to exchange Take Home Books Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday but it doesn't always happen.
  • Monday, Feb. 8, is Family Day so you get an extra day with Team Awesome at home. Have fun!
  • Book orders are due Wednesday, Feb. 10. Make sure your child's name is on it.
  • We will be skating with Mrs. Farber's class Thursday, Feb. 11, from 10:00-11:00. Hope to see you there!
  • Expect Valentine's Day activities on Friday, Feb. 12. If you would like to send a snack, please feel free.
  • It makes it much less time consuming to hand out cards if you have your child fill in their name on their Valentine cards and leave off who they are for. Then we can just pop them into the card holders without trying to read names (and without 17 children waving cards in my face to help them because they can't read the writing and neither can I). We have 20 children in the class. Send the cards in a bag and have your child leave it on my desk or in the Home Box in the morning for safekeeping.
  • I am finishing up a few assessments and will try and touch bases with parents the week of Feb. 15. It need not be long or even a scheduled visit so I might pull you aside in the morning or afternoon for a quick chat. Of course, you can book an 'official' time to see me on Thursday, Feb. 18 if you would like.
  • February family projects are due whenever they are done.
  • No Limits Fitness on 8th is offering free squash on Family Day for anyone interested.
  • Since Christmas a large number of toys have been coming to school in backpacks and they are causing some issues. If you could make sure toys stay home, other than on your child's sharing day, I would very much appreciate it.
  • Thank you to Ciara and her family for the donation of some plastic utensils for the classroom.
  • Thank you to Bentley and his mom for the donation of a Valentine craft. We will do it this coming week.
Go forth and Be Awesome!
