PAC Christmas Store

30/11/2016

BEST PAC will be sponsoring a Christmas Store next week for the students to purchase small gifts for their family and this is the information I have so far: The store will be open December 7, 8 & 9 from 12:20 to 3:00 pm in Room 8. Items will be priced between $.05 & $5.00 and will be colour coded for the younger students. Children are welcome to shop on their own at lunch and after school. PAC will supervise. There will be a sign up sheet for teachers to take their class through for a "sneak peak" on the morning of December 7. PAC will assist the students to select and wrap their items in gift bags; teachers need only provide supervision.
If you are sending money with your child to pick items up from the Store at lunch please deliver it to me in the morning in a labelled bag or envelope with the names of the family members the student is expected to shop for and the amount. I will ensure the money is kept safe and will give it to them at the shopping time allotted. Their gifts will be put into their backpacks to be taken home. Please understand that lose of money/ change/ gift items is a possibility but I will do my best.

Winter Concert Costumes

28/11/2016

From Mrs. Phillips:
Hi everyone,
Here is a list of suggested costumes for the students for their class presentation for the Christmas Concert. As always, all we can ask is if you can do your best to match the theme. I am working on some common elements such as sashes, crowns etc. to use with some classes and will bring these to teachers when they are ready.
Also, please direct parents to my Fine Arts blog where I've put up a Youtube video/song for almost all classes of their performance piece and have also put the costume suggestions. Parents can go under Special Events to find their child's class page for the Concert.
BOWDEN- Costume: Anything Spanish looking, or any combination of red, white and black (or small amounts of yellow). Red sashes will be available for girls and boys. Skirts on girls would work well.
Thank you for help in dressing your child for our Winter Concert. Please have them in their costumes for the concert on Wednesday, Dec. 14 at 1:00 and 6:00.

Are you heading out to see Santa in the parade tomorrow (already!)? The weather is supposed to be +3 with possible flurries (if Environment Canada is to be believed) so it should be a good day for a winter parade. The parade begins at 2nd & St. Paul, travels North on 2nd Avenue and East on Victoria St. to 6th Avenue where it will disperse in the 600 Block Victoria St. The day starts with Wake-Up Santa at 10:30am and the parade beginning at 11:00am. There will be pre-parade entertainment starting at 10:15am along the parade route for the kids. I'll be thinking of all the parents attending with their overexcited children, trying to stay warm by jumping up and down and drinking too much coffee  (which leads to the need for a nonexistent bathroom and more jumping) until the big finale, which after all is really the only thing everyone is there to see. Children are only children for such a very few short years and soon aren't interested in parades or things they consider childish or Santa either, meaning there are only a handful of Santa parades to enjoy with them. So bundle up warmly and revel in the excitement!
  • Don't forget to send the library books back by Monday next week and your child will put it in the Library Box on their way in.
  • PAC pizza order forms are due Monday, Nov. 28 with pizza delivered at lunch on Friday, Dec. 2.
  • We are sharing a video conference with Mrs. Farber's class and the Royal Tyrell museum on Wednesday, Nov. 30.
  • Our last Fresh Air Friday for 2016 will be Friday, Dec. 2. We are hoping to go to the river so please dress your child warmly as it is always chillier down there.
  • The BEST newsletter for November can be found here.
  • December Family Projects will be due Dec. 1 or whenever they are completed.
  • B.E.S.T PAC will be having a Christmas Gift Shop at the school December 7 – 9 for students to buy Christmas gifts for their family. Items will be priced between .5 cents - $5.00. More information to come.
  • BEST PAC will be raffling gift baskets filled with donated items at the Christmas Concert again this year. Our class theme for donations will be Arts & Crafts. Your donations of Arts and Crafts items to put into the basket are very much appreciated and due Monday, Dec. 12. You can leave them with me.
  • Christmas gift idea? This is a good time to start looking in secondhand shops for  suitable skates as the school books skating time for all classes every year.
  • Zipped up coat weather is here and a number of the children cannot do them up themselves. Please practice zipping at home and putting on gloves/mittens too.
  • November sight words are: at, and, do, from, go, he, see, she, stop (which we already know). If a word comes up repeatedly in our studies we will sometimes add it to our words for the month. Please feel free to practice them at home. We will begin December sight words next week as it is a short month.
  • We would like to welcome our newest member, Kenna, to Team Awesome and her family to Kamloops.
  • Thank you to the parents who helped us on our field trip to the BLSC today. Extra eyes and ears when we are away from the school are always appreciated.
Go forth and Be Awesome!

The weather has been so lovely. It feels like a gift of a tiny slice of autumn wrapped in a golden box. I know, from the way it's just beginning to be quite chilly in the mornings, that it will end soon so I am trying to take full advantage of it by taking Team Awesome outside as often as possible. And while most of this week has been damp and a bit wet and miserable, and the forecast for next week is the same, today of all days it held off. Because the river has come up so much in the last few weeks that there is only a small piece of beach, we unfortunately had to move our Fresh Air Friday activities to the school after taking a walking scavenger hunt through the neighbourhood. I know Team Awesome was very disappointed and I hope the river will have subsided by our next Fresh Air Friday (Dec. 2) so we can carry on with our usual routine.
  • Don't forget to send the library books back by Monday next week and your child will put it in the Library Box on their way in.
  • Permission slips and $2.00 for the bus for our trip to the BLSC are due back Monday, Nov. 21.  Our trip is the morning of Friday, Nov. 25.
  • Const. Sophie Winkels will be joining us Monday, Nov. 21 to present the WITS program (walk away, ignore, talk it out, seek help).
  • Hot lunch order forms are due to the office Wednesday, Nov. 23.
  • PAC pizza order forms are due Monday, Nov. 28 with pizza delivered at lunch on Friday, Dec. 2.
  • We are sharing a video conference with Mrs. Farber's class and the Royal Tyrell museum on Wednesday, Nov. 30.
  • The last book orders before the holidays went home this week and are due back Wednesday, Nov. 23. If you would prefer to have an order delivered straight to you rather than your child, please let me know.
  • Due to popular demand, the PAC will be raffling gift baskets filled with donated items at the Christmas Concert again this year. Our class theme for donations will be Arts & Crafts. Your donations of Arts and Crafts items to put into the basket are very much appreciated and due Monday, Dec. 12.
  • Christmas gift idea? We have scheduled three skating sessions across January and February. If your child does not have skates they are welcome to borrow them from the school but the sizes might be off and they are a kijillion years old so not terribly warm or comfortable. This is a good time to start looking in secondhand shops for something suitable as the school books skating time for all classes every year.
