In years past we have invited our moms for Moms & Muffins to celebrate Mother's Day and our dads for Dads & Donuts to celebrate Father's Day. Of course there are always children who do not have or live with both of their parents, or their special parent was not available to attend, and these days caused the children some distress, although they were welcome to invite any special adult in their life to come. To help alleviate some of the discomfort these celebration days cause for some of our little peeps, Mrs. Farber and I have decided to do away with both days and amalgamate them into a Family Day. We have decided that Friday, June 7 this year would be a good day to celebrate our families and Team Awesome will be inviting one or two people in their family to join us from 8:30-9:00am for some one-on-one reading and possibly a bit of juice and small snack. I will send out a reminder blog post closer to the date and add it to our June calendar. Team Awesome will also write some invitations. We look forward to celebrating our families!
This is a colouring and crafty group. They love to colour, draw, make books and notes and cards and crafts for their friends and family. You have no idea the amount of paper we go through. At the beginning of the year I often put out colouring to help the children strengthen their fine motor skills but straight-up colouring is not something that is often done this time of year. It is usually colouring + something else- colour by addition or sight words for example. So when Team Awesome came in on Monday morning and saw Easter egg colouring on the table it sounded as if they had hit a big lottery jackpot. Whoops and hollers and hurrahs! Who knew it was so easy to make a large group of children so happy?! And they made me promise to put out Easter colouring every morning this week. I hope you and your family are going to enjoy the Easter long weekend with a fridge covered in brightly decorated Easter motifs carefully crafted and given to you with love from a Team Awesome member.
Please send 2 hard boiled in-shell eggs with your child for Thursday, April 18 so we can dye them as part of our Easter activities. A hard-sided container to transport them in is a good idea so they don't get crushed/ cracked. Some of the children will elect to eat them for lunch and some will decide to take them home.
