BEST will be sponsoring a Bike Rodeo Friday, June 2 from 9:00-11:50ish. If you would like your child to participate, ensure they have their bike and a helmet that morning. The students will not be able to participate if they do not have a helmet. They can lean their bikes up at the side/ outside classroom door in the morning and bring in their helmets to hang on their hooks. We will have them park their bikes again until the end of the day when we are finished. They will not be using their bikes at any other time throughout the day. If your child does not have a bike or it is not able to be brought to school, they will cheer on their friends then have some play on the playground.
Doesn't it feel like things get a little crazy when the weather warms up in the spring? Practice starts- for spring soccer, baseball, flag football etc etc etc. Times that by multiple children with multiple activities. And now the joys of yard work and gardening are added on top of the usual list of inside jobs like house cleaning, grocery shopping, laundry, meal preparation etc etc etc. And that's just the weekend chores. Notice I'm not even mentioning 'spring cleaning' (what's that?). Add in the additional responsibilities during the school/ work week and its enough to make you feel like your head is going to explode. Where do we find the time?!? Almost makes one pine for the dull dreary cold months of winter when snuggling up with a cuppa and fuzzy blanket in front of the TV to do some bingeing is totally acceptable. Almost.
Don't forget that Thursday, June 1 is our Jump Rope 4 Heart activities. The children were to sign up online for fundraising and they will receive their prizes shortly. We will be spending some time outside on the field so please dress the children appropriately- hats, sunscreen and water bottles are a good idea if it looks like it will be warm. We will participate in six or so stations that involve jumping in some way, shape or form so expect Team Awesome to come home tired! Thanks for supporting Jump Rope For Heart.
Hello Families,
Ms. Farber and Ms. Bowden's Kindergartens will be putting on a short performance entitled "Aquarium" on Tuesday, May 30 at 11:15am in the School Gym and you are Invited! We will be performing for the families of the classes, as well as a few classes from the school. Students have been working hard on learning their parts for the performance and are eager to share their learning. Our story takes place in the Ocean, and thus the students represent different creatures of the sea. The students are divided into two groups for this performance - the Octopus and the Sea Creatures. Students who are part of the Giant Octopus: Haven, Elsie, Charlie M, Lucas J, Brinlee, Stewart, Harper, Coltt, Nixon, Diehen These students make up the Octopus and thus can dress in red/orange/yellow/brown coloured clothing. Even a shirt of that colour would work. Students who are Sea Creatures: Zaylah, Jasper, Paisley, Kinsley, Clay, Tarjan, Ruben, Ethan, Owen, Vinnie, Hayden, Kayden, Vidhya, Oakley, Chuckie, Julia, Malcolm, Madison, Lucas M, Tema, Daxton, Hailee These students are all different kinds of sea creatures and thus can wear blues and greens or any of the colours that sea creatures wear. King, Paisley, Vidhya, and Malcolm are also scuba divers for one small part, but don't worry too much if you don't have costume parts for this. Even a swimming mask or snorkling mask would do fine. If students are planning on anything more than a shirt or simple piece of clothing for their costume, they should bring their costumes on the morning of the play and we will help them into their costumes after recess. If you have any questions, please let me know at the school or email me at: [email protected] Mrs. Phillips Bert Edwards Fine Arts Teacher Hello Bert Edwards families!
Our annual Jump Rope for Heart campaign to raise funds for the Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation is well under way at our school and our students are already doing amazing! However, we still have a way to go! Our goal is to have 50 students registered and so far we have just 13! Can you help us reach our goal? Registration is quick and easy! Please find attached the pledge forms, in preparation for our Jump Rope activity day on June 1st, with information about how to donate and how to register as a participant. This year we have set a goal as a school to have more than 50 participants registered online and to raise more than $1000 for the Heart and Stroke Foundation! We know we can do it by working together! If the students reach this goal, we will be planning an outside Dance Party for the WHOLE school following our Jump day! We hope you can help us to reach our goal! Every little bit helps! Monday, May, 29 we will be travelling to Paul Lake to participate in the Learn To Fish program sponsored by the Freshwater Fisheries Society of BC. We will leave the school at approximately 9:00 and return for the end of the day. Our plan is to have our snacks upon arrival at the lake and some play time before our lesson. In previous years the presenters began our session with a lesson on fish and identifying them and knot tying with some hands-on practice. We then split into two groups and had some one-on-one lessons on how to cast a rod. The children will need to wait in line for their turn very patiently. We then each got our own rods and spent some time casting into the water and reeling them in. We are going to anticipate that our day this year will follow a similar format. Sometime in there we will also eat our lunches. At NO time will the children be allowed into the water as there will be no lifeguard.
The weather can be unpredictable so please plan accordingly and send both a jacket and a sun hat. Pre-dosing your child with bug spray and sunscreen in the morning is also a good idea. Please do not send these items with your child as they tend to overuse them and spray them everywhere, including in eyes, on food and on friends. The children seem to become voracious eaters on trips so some extra snacks or sandwiches would not be amiss and of course, a water bottle. There are washroom facilities at the park. Please join us if you are able as extra adult hands and eyes on field trips are always welcome. You could drive your own vehicle or there will also be some room on the bus. If you are taking your child home in your own vehicle at the end of the day, please inform us before leaving. Unfortunately, no one caught anything last time but there were plenty of fish tales to tell later!
