Today we had a brief discussion about what Team Awesome can expect on Monday, Oct. 31 and I had better share the details with you before you get a 5 year old's version (which I am sure would include tons of treats in their lunch and a new puppy each). A few years ago BEST added the opportunity to dress up in Halloween costumes during the school day. The children are welcome to wear their costumes throughout the day (or not) but no weapons, masks or gore are allowed. Please note that if your child wears their costume all day it probably will not come home in the same shape it came to school in. Please label all costume pieces with names and refrain from sending little bits and pieces/accessories as they are difficult to keep track of and often end up lost. Various Halloween activities will take place throughout Monday, including a costume parade, Halloween safety review discussion (Cst. Sofie gave us the 'official' one on Thursday), rotating stations in mixed K-3 groups between recess and lunch and a dance in the gym for part of the afternoon. Fun fun fun!!
Please refrain from sending more than 1 Halloween treat to school each day with your child in November. They will be encouraged to eat their healthy food (ie sandwich) before having the treat at lunch.
  • Don't forget to send the library books back by Monday next week and your child will put it in the Library Box on their way in.
  • PAC pizza orders are due Monday, Oct. 31 with pizza delivered on Friday, Nov. 4.
  • PAC cookie dough orders are due Tuesday, Nov. 1 to the office. I'm not sure of delivery date.
  • The whole school Spirit Assembly will be the afternoon of Wednesday, Nov. 2.
  • If you would like to make a Scholastic order as a gift for your child, please let me know beforehand and I will be sure to deliver it to you directly rather than to your child. The book orders went home on Wednesday and are due back Friday, Nov. 4.
  • Christmas gift idea? We have scheduled three skating sessions across January and February. If your child does not have skates they are welcome to borrow them from the school but the sizes might be off and they are a kijillion years old so not terribly warm or comfortable. This is a good time to start looking in secondhand shops for something suitable as the school books skating time for all classes every year.
  • Zipped up coat weather is here and a number of the children cannot do them up themselves. Please practice zipping at home and putting on gloves/mittens too.
  • November Family Projects are due back Thursday, Nov. 10 or whenever they are completed.
  • October sight words are: am, to, my, for, was, is. If a word comes up repeatedly in our studies we will sometimes add it to our words for the month. Please feel free to practice them at home. We will have new words next week for November.
  • Please have your child read any little paper books that come home multiple times for practice. Thank you.
  • Thank you thank you thank you to the parents who were able to accompany us to the pumpkin patch and help supervise. Without your help taking field trips is much more difficult (and stress inducing!).
Go forth and Be Awesome!

Pumpkin Patch Fieldtrip

25/10/2016

Tomorrow is our visit to the Sunset Farms pumpkin patch (towards the airport) and Team Awesome is very excited. We will be leaving on the bus as close to 9:00 as possible after we have our photo retakes and class picture done. The weather in the mornings has been damp and chilly so appropriate footwear as we will be exploring through wet long grass and leaves, as well as a heavier coat (with a tissue in the pocket), hat and mittens are suggested. Unfortunately, the farm has called and told us that there are very few large pumpkins and those that are left are rotting BUT there should be enough child-sized pumpkins so we can all choose one to bring back to school. We will explore the pumpkin patch and corn maze and ride on the tractor wagon and have a snack from our lunch kit before coming back to school. You are welcome to meet us there if you would like, or there is space on the bus if you are feeling brave.

Thank you so much for taking time out of your busy day to visit Team Awesome in our classroom this week. They were so excited to have you come and see what we have been up to in Kindergarten. And I was happy to hear that they all enjoy being here. Although they seem content and adjusted while they are in class and engaged in whatever we are learning, sometimes the stories told at home can be slightly different. You are more than welcome to ask your child to show you the 'latest and greatest' projects we are working on any time you pick them up at the end of the day and pull me aside for a quick chat without waiting for an interview if you have questions and concerns. Enjoy your extra day at home with the children- they are going to need plenty of rest for our next few busy weeks.
  • Don't forget to send the library books back by Monday next week and your child will put it in the Library Box on their way in.
  • Permission slips for our pumpkin patch field trip were due Thursday, Oct. 20. The cost is $7.00- $5.00 for the pumpkin patch and $2.00 for the bus. If you haven't sent it in yet please do so as soon as possible or your child will be unable to attend.
  • Photo retakes and our pumpkin patch field trip are both Wednesday, Oct. 26. Those children requiring retakes will have them before we leave. We will also be having a whole class photo at that time.
  • November lunch orders are due to the office Wednesday, Oct. 26.
  • School photos need to be ordered by Friday, Oct. 28.
  • Friday, Oct. 28 is a Fresh Air Friday. Please dress your child appropriately.
  • PAC pizza orders are due Monday, Oct. 31 with pizza delivered on Friday, Nov. 4.
  • November Family Projects were sent home this week as they involve a timeline poster and I wanted to be sure to give lots of time for them. They are due back Thursday, Nov. 10 or whenever they are completed.
  • BEST has entered a battery recycling competition and for all of this week, and the beginning of next week, we are collecting old batteries to be sent for recycling. If you have any at home, you are welcome to leave them with me or at the office.
  • October sight words are: am, to, my, for, was, is. If a word comes up repeatedly in our studies we will sometimes add it to our words for the month. Please feel free to practice them at home.
  • Please have your child read any little paper books that come home multiple times for practice. Thank you.
