Mrs. Farber and myself are planning an AWESOME (!) Fresh Air Friday for Friday, June 8, but the river is too high to go down and explore. FAF will take place outside at the school and will involve gadgets and contraptions. But we need your help collecting a few things. We would like a few defunct small appliances (or big ones if you are willing to transport to and from the school) that the children can dismantle. Toasters, blenders, mixers, alarm clocks, stereos, etc. We have some tools the children can use as well to help them in their deconstruction of these items. Thanks in advance for your help.
As I was looking at the calendar and filling in dates, I was taken aback to realize that we have just over one month of school left this year. How did that happen? We have plenty of activities to fill up the time- field trips, assemblies, Fresh Air Fridays and, of course, our regular curriculum stacked on top. I often begin to feel a bit anxious this time of year as I think of how much more I want to share with the children. And although we will do tons of learning these last few months, I never seem to feel 'finished' (although I might feel like it by the end of June). There is always something else I would like to help Team Awesome discover or get them excited about. Of course, their formal learning has just begun and they will have plenty of other opportunities to embrace the excitement and I will start all over again with a new group in the fall so technically, we will not be finished even though this school year will soon be.
Bert Edwards Egg Glider Fun Thursday May 31, 1:00pm
Students are invited to enter this fun event on their own, with a group or with a parent. All you have to do is build a glider that carries a raw egg. Find a way to prevent an egg from breaking while also travelling as far as possible. Choose the materials, make your plan and have some fun. Rules:
Build a beautiful, elegant and very effective egg glider that flies. There will not be prizes or measurements. We will just take pride in our achievement. Please ensure your glider has your name on it. They will be picked up at our classroom in the morning by a grade 5 student and returned to you with an egg in it at the gliding event. If you would like to join us, we will be outside watching the gliders perform at about 1:00. Don't forget that Friday is our Jump Rope 4 Heart afternoon. The children were sent home with envelopes for fundraising two weeks ago and they needed to be turned into the office this week. If you still have your child's envelope, please send it to the school by Friday at the latest. We will be spending the afternoon outside on the field so please dress the children appropriately- hats, sunscreen and water bottles are a good idea if it looks like it will be warm. We will participate in six or so stations that involve jumping in some way, shape or form so expect Team Awesome to come home tired. You are more than welcome to join us for the afternoon. Events begin at 1:00ish. See you Friday!
