We have finally- despite many interruptions- finished off our polar animals unit. Our unit wound up today with an experiment and an activity. We learned that polar animals are able to stay warm in such frigid temperatures because of a thick layer of blubber. The children thought it was a silly idea that fat could keep animals warm so we put fat to the test. We slipped one hand into the 'blubber glove' made of lard | |
We also built our own polar habitats complete with snow dens for polar bears made of marshmallows and other polar animals we cut and glued to stand up on the paper. I love how many of them remembered the arctic is mostly water and added some with felts or paper and put the water animals close to it, as well as making sure the land animals were far away. Team Awesome did a great job showcasing all the things they learned about polar animals and their habitats today!
