As you know, I was away from Team Awesome today. I am seldom away from my classroom and the only other time I was absent this year, Miss Dowler was here to oversee things so it was pretty much business as usual. To allow the children time to adjust to the thought of another teacher in our classroom, I told Team Awesome on Monday- and was met with blank stares of incomprehension and plenty of questions and concerns about what would happen when I was gone and when I was coming back. The questions continued to occur at random times throughout the week and I did my best to ease their anxiety. So if your child seemed a bit out of sorts when dropped off this morning, my absence and the 'unknown' could have something to do with it. But I know Team Awesome will rise to the challenge and welcome our guest teacher with all the love and warmth they bestow on me on a daily basis. And a good day will be had by all!
- As usual, library books are due back for exchange by next Tuesday.
- May Family Projects are welcome whenever they are ready.
- Don't forget Mother's Day this Sunday, May 12. Team Awesome will celebrate Family Day on Friday, June 7. More info to come.
- Wednesday, May 15 we will have a fire drill.
- Thursday, May 16 Team Awesome will have a dental screening. Notices went home last week with more information.
- We also have our egg drop/glider competition the afternoon of Thursday, May 16. There is more info in the May newsletter, a notice came home and there will be a blog post with info. It is a volunteer activity, not mandatory. Get planning those Egg Containers!
- Team Awesome will have an extra long May Long Weekend as Friday, May 17 is a Pro D day and they get to stay home!
- Monday, May 20 is Victoria Day and the school will be closed. Enjoy!
- Eureka Science will be visiting BEST Tuesday May 21 and all classes will participate in sessions.
- Wednesday, May 22 is the BEST bike rodeo. Your child must have a bike and helmet at school to participate. More info in the May newsletter.
- Hot lunch orders for June due to the office by Wednesday, May 22.
- Mark your calendars for the BEST PAC evening carnival Friday, May 24 from 5pm to 8pm.
- We will participate in outdoor skipping stations the afternoon of Friday, May 24 in support of the Jump Rope For Heart foundation.
- Permission forms for our Learn To Fish field trip to Paul Lake on Friday, May 31 came home this week and are due back Friday, May 24 with $2.00 for the bus. Please join us!
- BEST will host a Scholastic Book Fair the last week of May from Monday, May 27 to Thursday, May 30. Look for times on posters around the school.
- Mrs. Farber and I will be welcoming next year's Kindergarteners in the gym the afternoon of Wednesday, May 29 and a substitute will be with Team Awesome.
- PAC hot dog day Friday, June 7. Orders are due to the office by Friday, May 31.
- We are down to 10 pairs of scissors from 25. That means we each need to share with a partner. If you find a pair of our scissors at home (they sometimes go home in lunch kits), please return them.
- Don't forget to use the Scholastic $6 book coupon your child received in their Xmas card from me before the end of June! Only one more order to do so!!

- May sight words are: are, her, him, how, out, play, this, when, your. If a word comes up repeatedly in our studies we will sometimes add it to our words for the month. Please feel free to practice them at home.
