- Christmas gift idea? We have scheduled skating sessions in January/ February. If your child does not have skates they are welcome to borrow them from the school but the sizes might be off and they are a kijillion years old so not terribly warm or comfortable. This is a good time to start looking in secondhand shops for something suitable as the school books skating time for all classes most every year.
- For parents who have children entering Kindergarten, join SD 73 in January and February to learn more about schools of choice and registration in Kindergarten. Read more here.
- Scholastic flyers are available here. All Scholastic orders can be done online whenever you like. Our class code is RC210022.
- Please have Team Awesome read any little paper books that come home (approximately 1 per week) multiple times for practice/ fluency. Thank you.

- Newsletters are paperless and can be found on the BEST website at best.sd73.bc.ca.
- If your child is exhibiting illness symptoms of any kind they must be kept home. Thank you.
After experiencing the corn maze on the pumpkin patch field trip, some of the children became fascinated by mazes. They wanted to draw them and solve them and talk about them. So we did a quick lesson on mazes then Team Awesome planned out their own mazes on paper before building them from the materials we set out. Some were more successful than others but everyone had a great time using what was available to create and share their own maze.
Accessibility and inclusion are important to us, which is why we have planned a Sensory Friendly Evening for anyone who may benefit from a sensory-friendly experience. Join us on December 15th for a quieter, more supportive Wildlights experience. No music will be played and we will have a designated quiet space for anyone needing a break from the sensory-rich environment. In addition, we have partnered with Canucks Autism Network (CAN) who will have trained staff throughout the Park, providing support to anyone who needs it. The CAN team has also created a Visual Storybook to help prepare visitors for what to expect at the park and will have sensory kits available for loan for anyone who may need one. Full details on Wildlights and the Sensory Friendly night can be found at https://www.bcwildlife.org/wildlights2023.htm
The Canadian Pacific (CP) Holiday Train program is returning to the rails to raise money, food, and awareness for food banks and hunger issues across Canada and the United States. The Holiday Train is about 1,000 feet in length with 14 rail cars decorated with hundreds of thousands of technology-leading LED lights and a modified boxcar that has been turned into a traveling stage for performers. Beginning in Maine, two trains will make the festive journey, travelling through both the U.S. and Canada to bring holiday cheer to many communities along CP’s network. Each event is free, with CP encouraging attendees to open their cupboards and wallets to help address hunger needs in their communities. Local food banks will be accepting donations at each stop to ensure those less fortunate have enough healthy food this holiday season. It will be in our area Saturday, December 16. A great family activity for a good cause!
Elf on the Shelf is a holiday tradition many parents partake in, but some experts say although it has good intentions, it could also be harmful to kids.
This site advocates for an alternative to Elf on the Shelf called the Kindness Elves which encourages some character development, thoughtfulness and kindness at the same time. All it will really take for a great holiday and beyond with your kids is just a little positive parenting magic.
