We will be leaving the school as soon as possible in the morning (8:45ish). Be sure to pack lots of lunch/snacks, a water bottle, a sweater and a hat. The weather is supposed to be cloudy with a chance of showers, clearing in the afternoon, so please dress your child appropriately. Apply sunscreen and bug repellent before leaving the house as the children have a tendency to share and over-apply, getting it into eyes/hair etc. The bus will drop us off at the top of the hill and we will either use the bathrooms (outhouses) at the top or the bottom of the hill...or both. We will eat our snacks and take our garbage with us. Children will be divided up amongst the adults and the groups will be encouraged to explore but to stay together. We will make our way around the lake, stopping and exploring and staying out of the water. It is not inconceivable that someone will 'accidently' fall/slip into the water (it has happened before) so I will pack a change of clothes just in case. Partway around the lake we will go out onto the docks to see what we can see and the pond kits will be brought out to use. Slightly further on we will stop in a large grassy area to eat our lunches and then slowly make our way back to the bus so we can leave by 1:45. Sometime during the day we will get a picture of all the Ks together. Sounds like a great day! Hope to see you tomorrow.
It is here! Our trip to Isobel Lake! So here's the plan- although it is wobbly as out there in the forest we are not restricted to time constraints so things are fairly relaxed other than our departure time at the end of the day.

Tomorrow the Big Little Science Centre will be joining us for the afternoon and we will be exploring bubbles outside. Because the weather was far too chilly and the children were dressed for heat, we did not do our Fresh Air Friday surprise last week so we will combine it with the bubbles tomorrow. Please make sure your child is dressed to get soapy and possibly wet and dirty tomorrow. Join us if you would like.
I was picking blue playdough out from under my fingernails last night and thinking about how it never fails to amaze me how the children constantly come up with new ways to use the same old toys. They have had access to the same activities during morning and afternoon Free Choice time since September and no one has yet to complain. The way they use the objects and the sophistication of their play has changed but the items they are using has not. The blankets and pillows are used constantly for the kitchen centre, during quiet reading, as well as to make forts and as capes and veils. The large building blocks are used to make housing structures, animal pens, towers and castles and lately the large pipes have been slid onto arms for 'Iron Man' armor. Even toys that don't lend themselves to being more than they are, like the Tiny Dolls and Animal Barn, are still in demand but the stories being created are more complex, richer and involve more dialogue than when the children started kindergarten. So even when I am tired of looking at the same old activities day in and day out, that doesn't necessarily mean Team Awesome is ready to throw in the towel.
Order forms went home for the BEST Beehive year book today. If you would like one, please send order form and money to the office. There is no due date on the form but sooner is probably better than later. Year books are $20.00.
The BEST PAC is also looking for volunteers to help put in the new playground on July 10,11,12. If you are able to help out, please contact Amanda Bartel at 778-220-0113. The four TRU students employed by the City of Kamloops to deliver the EcoSmart message had Team Awesome totally enthralled this morning. They presented us with a 'think eco-friendly' play today complete with mystery, detectives, magic, a princess, a wicked stepmother and a message. Ask Team Awesome about the play and how to be EcoSmart- they have it down pat.
I wanted to post the whole play Team Awesome performed today but the program I use will only allow 10 second video clips. So I managed most of the play with tiny bits missing. I also am unable to make a movie without music which does interfere a bit with the song/dance at the end. I hope if you were unable to make it today, you enjoy the video. Great job Team Awesome! You are the cutest pirates I ever did see!
